Discover Sandboxie-Plus, a tool designed to safely run untrusted programs on your Windows NT system. Originally created by Ronen Tzur and now maintained by S...

Okay, let me see… Sandboxie-Plus. Seriously? It’s… a sandbox. Like, a digital sandbox for your computer. I remember seeing something like this back in late 2023, trying to figure out how to safely test some weird software I’d downloaded. Basically, it’s a way to run stuff without messing up your whole system.

It’s built by this guy, David Xanatos, and it’s been around a while, going through a bunch of different companies – Sophos, Invincea, and Ronen Tzur. It’s open source, which is good.

So, the main thing is, you can run programs in this isolated space. Like, you can surf the web, or try out some potentially dodgy software, and if it crashes or messes things up, it doesn’t affect your actual computer. That’s the whole point, right?

They have two versions. There’s the “classical” one with a pretty basic interface, and then the “plus” build. The plus one has a new, different user interface – Q’t-based, apparently. You can use the new features in the classical version by tweaking a file called sandboxie.ini. It’s a bit of a headache, honestly, but it gives you more control.

It lets you run untrusted programs safely, test things out, and customize how it works. It’s like having a little bubble around your computer. Absolute madness, but useful.

You can find a full comparison of the features on their website. And if you want to help out, you can contribute to the project or even buy some merchandise. They’ve got a forum and a Patreon too.
