Review of Superman (2025): Everything You Need to Know!

Read Time: 4 min.

Alright, folks, strap in because we’re diving deep into Superman (2025)—the movie that’s either going to save DC or make us all wish Zack Snyder came back with a four-hour director’s cut of Man of Steel 2. I’ve watched the movies and scoured internet’s dark corners so you don’t have to. Let’s break it down.

THE BASICS: WHO, WHAT, WHEN?

First off, yes, this is another Superman movie. No, it’s not Henry Cavill (RIP, my sweet mustachioed king). Instead, we’ve got David Corenswet stepping into the red boots, and honestly? Dude looks like he was genetically engineered in a lab to play Clark Kent. James Gunn—yes, the guy who turned a talking raccoon into an A-lister—is directing, and he’s promising a Superman who’s hopeful, inspiring, and not constantly brooding in the rain. Wild concept, I know.

Release date? July 11, 2025. ([Laughing out loud…] I saw it early) Mark your calendars, set a reminder, whatever, maybe even tattoo it on your lower back if you’re that committed.

THE CAST: FRESH FACES AND A FEW SURPRISES

Corenswet’s our new Supes, but who else is joining him? Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) is Lois Lane, and honestly, she might steal the whole movie. Lex Luthor? Nicholas Hoult, because apparently, the guy who played a cannibal in The Menu is now the world’s smartest villain (typecasting much?). And yes, there’s a Jimmy Olsen—Skyler Gisondo—who looks like he walked straight out of a 1950s comic book.

THE PLOT: IS THIS A REBOOT OR JUST ANOTHER MESS?

Good news: This is a full reboot. No ties to the Snyderverse, no confusing Justice League baggage. Gunn’s calling it Superman: Legacy (though now it’s just Superman), and it’s supposed to be a modern, heartfelt take on the character. Think All-Star Superman vibes—optimistic, heroic, maybe even a little cheesy (in a good way). This one just jumps right in with the understanding you know ‘Superman’.

Rumors say we’re getting a younger Superman, early in his career, balancing his Kryptonian heritage with small-town values. And the villain? Not just Lex—there’s talk of The Authority showing up, which means Gunn’s already planting seeds for his DCU. Because nothing says “grounded Superman story” like a team of morally questionable super-psychopaths.

EARLY REVIEWS: IS IT ACTUALLY GOOD?

Shockingly… yes? Early reactions from test screenings (even via Variety and Rotten Tomatoes) say it’s a return to form—fun, emotional, and packed with action. Critics are calling it “the Superman movie we’ve been waiting for”, which, after Batman v Superman, is a very low bar. But hey, I’ll take it.

Gunn’s humor is there (expect one-liners), but it’s not Guardians of the Galaxy in a cape. This is a love letter to the character, with Corenswet reportedly nailing both Clark’s awkward charm and Superman’s godlike presence. Brosnahan’s Lois is getting raves too—apparently, she’s the best since Margot Kidder.

POLITICAL: HOPE, HEGEL, AND HYPOCRISY

Let’s cut the crap—Superman has always been political. The original comics had him fighting corrupt senators and slumlords, the ’78 movie was a post-Watergate love letter to truth and justice, and now Gunn’s version is dropping in an election year when half of America thinks the other half is a existential threat. Of course this movie’s gonna ruffle feathers.

Early buzz suggests it’s leaning hard into Superman as a unifying symbol (Lex Luthor’s rumored to be a tech-bro oligarch, because subtlety), while critics on the right are already screeching about “woke casting” (because Brosnahan’s Lois Lane has opinions).

Meanwhile, the left’s side-eyeing whether Gunn—a guy who made Peacemaker—can actually deliver a progressive Superman without quipping away the gravitas. Bottom line? This movie’s either gonna be a healing balm for a fractured culture or the thing that makes Twitter finally combust.

Forget all that; if the shoe fits…

WILL THIS SAVE THE DCU?

Fuh; who knows. Look, Warner Bros. has screwed up more times than I’ve screwed up my sleep schedule, but Gunn might actually pull this off. If Superman hits, it could finally launch the DCU properly, with Brave and the Bold (Batman), Supergirl, and Lanterns on the way. If it flops? Well, at least we’ll always have The Suicide Squad (kind of).

But I’ll say they really upped their game with the CGI… it’s spot on this time. They apparently fired the sweatshop kids and hired good ones.

FINAL VERDICT: HYPE OR PASS?

I’m cautiously optimistic. Gunn knows how to balance heart and spectacle, Corenswet looks perfect, and early word is strong. But let’s be real—this is DC. They could still find a way to trip at the finish line.

Either way, July 2025 is gonna be must-watch chaos. And if this movie sucks? Don’t @ me—blame Warner Bros.

I gave it 8/10.

🚀 And yes; there’s a post credits scene. So just stay put.🚀
