Free Upgrade Windows 10 to 11

Read Time: 2 min.

It’s officially crunch time for Windows 10 users! Microsoft is pulling the plug on free software updates, technical assistance, and security fixes for Windows 10 after October 14, 2025. So, if you’re still rocking Windows 10, and you’re not a fan of living life on the edge with outdated security, it’s time to think about upgrading to Windows 11. The good news? If you have an official Windows 10 product key or digital license, you can upgrade to Windows 11 and activate it for free using your existing Windows 10 key.

Here’s a quick guide to getting your free Windows 11 activation:

Step 1: Find Your Windows 10 License Key

First things first, you need to locate your Windows 10 digital license key or product ID. If you’ve got a digital license but don’t know the serial number, there’s a simple solution:

    • Install an app called “ShowKeyPlus” from the Microsoft Store.
    • Once installed and opened, this app will display your Windows product information, including the product ID, OEM key, and installed key.
    • Make sure to save this information! Jot it down on paper or save it to a text file for safekeeping.

Step 2: Download Windows 11

Next, head over to the Microsoft website and download the Windows 11 bootable ISO file.

Step 3: Create a Bootable USB (and Bypass Hardware Requirements if Needed)

To create a bootable USB and even bypass Windows 11 hardware requirements, you’ll need Rufus software.

Step 4: Install or Update to Windows 11 24H2

Once you’ve got your bootable disk ready, go ahead and install or update to Windows 11 24H2. If you’re scratching your head wondering how to do a fresh install or update, don’t sweat it. Basically, insert the USB drive to your PC and reboot. You may have to access the boot menu.

Step 5: Activate Windows 11 with Your Old Key

After Windows 11 is installed, here’s how to activate it:

    • Right-click on “This PC” and open “Properties”.
    • Scroll down and select the “Product key and activation” option.
    • Click on “Upgrade your edition of Windows”.
    • Then, click the “Change” button.
    • Enter your old Windows 10 serial number and click “Next” to activate.

Important Note: Your PC needs an active internet connection to complete the activation process.

And there you have it! You’ve successfully updated and activated Windows 11 for free using your Windows 10 license. Pretty sweet, right?

Now you can enjoy all those new software and security updates without breaking the bank.
